8 Best Front Door Paint Colors For Your Home Door

One of the easiest ways to add a pop of color to your home exterior is to paint your front door. I am about to change the color of my front door from bronze to RED – but I still haven’t pulled the paintbrush out yet!

I am a little nervous, and I know that anyone in the same situation often is as well! Today, to put both of our minds at ease, I am sharing different front door paint colors with you. Hopefully, it will give you some painting ideas too!

1. Deep Teal front door paint Colors

What is not to love about this deep, rich color? Most people will opt for a brighter color when painting their front doors, but this jewel-tone would definitely make a statement.

Similar to this picture, I would pair this color front door with a neutral house. Because it is a statement color, you should stay away from mixing it with other statement colors. Let your door be the star of the show!

This color is similar to Sherwin Williams Oceanside, which was the 2018 color of the year, and Benjamin Moore Hidden Sapphire. I also see this color being similar to Homestead Blue Fusion Mineral paint with a black glaze over the top.

This is the color I will be painting my son’s side table this week!

2. High Gloss Black front door paint Colors

Black is classic and it almost always works, especially when it is painted in high gloss paint. Unfortunately, it is not one that many people would think of off the bat. If you are feeling stuck with which color to add to your home, definitely consider going darker!

Pair a black door with a white house, and you will have a classic look that never goes out of style! You will feel instantly transported to Paris.

Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black is a very popular color, as is Black Beauty from Benjamin Moore. As said above, the key here is to use a high gloss paint or to go over the base paint with a high gloss topcoat.

3. Navy front door paint Colors

Navy, navy, navy. Everyone loves it, and there is a great reason to. It is so dark that it is almost neutral, but it gives the perfect hint of blue to make it stand out.

It looks wonderful with a brick because of the mixture of cool and warm tones. This might sound contradictory to you, but the color wheel and the gorgeous picture prove it creates a nice color entry to a home.

I’m sure you can see a pattern here: I’m really into the darker colors lately! Hale Navy from Benjamin Moore is a dark classic navy you absolutely can’t go wrong with.

4. Green

Green is the perfect color to paint your front door in the Spring. I see this color being in a french country home surrounded by lavender and teal just like this beautiful entry photo above!

Because it is an earthed color, you can either pair it with other earth tones, or you can pair it with brighter cool tones like in the photo!

This green is on the brighter side, but you can’t go wrong. Who would have thought a color named Dill would be so beautiful!

5. Gray

Wedgewood Gray from Benjamin Moore is one of my favorite colors! I love it so much that I put it in my bedroom!

This soothing gray/green color transports you back to the beach. Pair it with white and navy shake siding for a perfectly curated exterior.

6. Coral

How fun is this coral front door? Coral Reef from Sherwin Williams transports you directly to the ocean.

This house in particular is giving me strong nautical vibes.

It looks great on a front door to create a playful entryway. You can use it with tropical, beach-themed homes or pair it with primary colors like the picture above.

7. Red

Red is a bold, yet classic front door. It grabs your eye and says “welcome home!” That is why I am painting my own front door this colo!

It pairs really nicely with a white and black house but is also extremely versatile. The picture here shows it with warm-toned brick, which also looks really nice!

The versatility of Red Front Door by Benjamin Moore is a major reason why I, and many others, love it!

8. Yellow

Last but not least is yellow. I love yellow and I keep switching between that and red for my front door. The great thing about being a color consultant is that you never get tired of painting!

See how great the yellow looks here with the gray paint? It is such a fun, happy color. Who wouldn’t feel welcomed here?

It pairs best with either gray or warm-toned colors. In my “How to Choose the Right Exterior Paint Colors” course, I teach you how the importance of hue and undertone when pairing colors.

That rounds up my selection of the best paint colors for front doors. The key is to choose colors that will pop, and welcome guests. Before you know it, you will have all the neighbors wanting to come to say hi!  Of course, there are many other colors, but these are colors I have recommended to clients in the past. Make sure whatever color you choose works with your siding and other fixed elements of your home. Painted front doors add personality to your home!

Now run, don’t walk to your paint store, and grab one of these beauties to update your front door. Share with me your front door (or your dream one) in the comments below!
